Boon Rawd forms logistics joint venture

BRF CEO Piti Bhirombhakdi with Peter Fox, executive chairman of Linfox.

Boon Rawd Brewery Co, the maker of Singha beer, has formed a joint venture with Australia-based Linfox to set up a new logistics firm to tap into the segment's growth, both in Thailand and regionally.

With registered capital of 250 million baht, divided equally between Boon Rawd's supply chain arm Boon Rawd Supply Chain Co and Linfox Holdings 2018 Thailand, the local operator of Linfox, BRF Logistics aims to dominate distribution and logistics networks in Thailand and across the region over the next three years.

The joint venture has a vision to build a strong and complete logistics network to support expansion in the regional economy by combining the expertise of the two companies, said Piti Bhirombhakdi, chief executive of BRF Logistics.

Boon Rawd plans to use its strengths from 85 years in the business, particularly its distribution network and representatives, Mr Piti said. The result is that every consumer will benefit from the company's ability to deliver products and services to every retail channel in Thailand and increase commercial potential through the specific targeting of the last mile in the consumer journey.

"Within these three years, BRF Logistics under the BevChain Logistics brand will carry out a regional penetration strategy to support the market expansion, especially in CLMV countries [Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam]," Mr Piti said. "These countries have significant economic growth and are key markets for Thai products and services. Brands will need logistics services when they want to market in these countries, and our company will be there to support every business size for collective growth."

The strengths of Linfox are its in-depth knowledge and expertise in warehouse management and logistics, honed by their position as the biggest private logistics company in Asia-Pacific.

Linfox operates in over 12 countries with 24,000 employees and 200 warehouses delivering consumer goods to the whole world and working in retail, mining and petrochemical businesses valued at more than US$60 billion (1.97 trillion baht). Linfox has been operating in Thailand for over 25 years and highlights its understanding of the Thai market.stores through more than 200 distribution agents in every province, down to the district level at every store in the country.

Boon Rawd's strengths include comprehensive product distribution and services for over 85 years, covering traditional trade, modern trade, supermarkets and convenience stores through more than 200 distribution agents in every province, down to the district level at every store in the country.

The company believes that, when combined with the logistical knowledge of BevChain Logistics, it can provide solutions customised to clients' needs at a much lower cost with better efficiency, and at the same time become more competitive and expand new businesses with clients.

The BevChain Logistics business model in Thailand will focus on delivering the same service standards as in Australia through managing product storage and distribution services.

The different will be that in Thailand customer penetration will focus on the fast moving consumer goodssegment  and drinks companies that are looking to secure the last mile for delivery to consumers.

Boon Rawd said the overall logistics business in Thailand in 2018 is valued at 215 billion baht, segmenting inland logistics at  145-147 billion and the storage business at 75-76 billion baht.

The land logistics business has grown 5.3-7% since last year (worth 137 billion baht) and storage business is up 5.3-7% (71 billion baht) due to economic growth and investments from government and the private sector.

The rise of e-commerce and the offline to online  platform model have also increased the need for more premium product storage solutions

Located within the 60-storey Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, Waldorf Astoria Bangkok today announces the hotel’s official opening in the heart of Bangkok. Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is the latest addition to the portfolio of Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Hilton (NYSE: HLT)’s luxury brand of iconic hotels. The landmark hotel is owned by MQDC (Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited) and managed by Hilton.

“MQDC is honored to partner with Hilton, a longstanding global leader in the hotel industry, in introducing the first Waldorf Astoria in South East Asia,” said Mr. Visit Malaisirirat, CEO of MQDC.

“With this prestigious alliance, MQDC makes an important strategic move into ultra-luxury hospitality. I am confident that Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard, with its landmark location and iconic architecture, can complement perfectly such a preeminent global brand as Waldorf Astoria. We look forward to helping ensure seamless luxury for guests and residents.”

“With Asia Pacific enjoying a golden age of travel, we are witnessing unprecedented demand for our brands and are creating some of the world’s greatest luxury hotels,” said Alan Watts, president, Hilton, Asia Pacific. “As the first Waldorf Astoria in South East Asia, the opening of Waldorf Astoria Bangkok adds a much-anticipated chapter to the brand’s story in Asia. It builds on our series of iconic Waldorf Astoria hotels in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, while prefacing the arrival of additional unforgettable Waldorf Astoria hotels in the near future.”

Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is located by the bustling Ratchaprasong intersection, within walking distance of renowned shopping precincts. Just a few minutes’ stroll to the Erawan Shrine, the luxurious Gaysorn Village mall and both lines of the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) Skytrain, the hotel is ideally positioned for guests to immerse themselves in the city’s colorful culture. Other highlights within a 10 to 25 minute drive include the Charoenkrung Creative District, the iconic Grand Palace and the city’s beautiful flower market.

“From Waldorf Astoria New York to Waldorf Astoria Chengdu, the Waldorf Astoria brand has a long-standing legacy of defining the hospitality experience for the modern-day traveler,” said Martin Rinck, executive vice president and global head, Luxury & Lifestyle Group, Hilton. “We truly believe that the opening of the new, landmark Waldorf Astoria Bangkok will not only redefine the luxury hospitality landscape throughout South East Asia, it will create unforgettable experiences for our guests that will last a lifetime.”

Award-winning architect André Fu and his design studio AFSO designed the main hotel. Globally recognized for their work, which range from modern hospitality projects and art spaces to high-profile fashion collaborations, AFSO has artistically curated a holistic Waldorf Astoria Bangkok hotel experience that unites the building’s contemporary architecture with Thai artisanal tradition. Conceptualized to embrace the gracious Thai spirit in an elegant setting, the 171 residential-style, spacious and luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites feature spa-inspired bathrooms and marble bathtubs.

The hotel’s crown jewel spans the top three floors from levels 55 to 57, comprising three distinctive, artistically curated dining outlets by world-renowned design and concept firm AvroKO. Exuding glamour and luxury, the opulent interiors of Bull & Bear, The Loft and Champagne Bar showcase a nod towards the Waldorf Astoria legacy, all accompanied by sweeping views of the city.

In line with Waldorf Astoria’s legacy of culinary expertise, Waldorf Astoria Bangkok is primed to be a dining destination in itself. The property features three unique restaurant concepts, a lounge and two bars, including:

    • Front Room, the hotel’s signature restaurant, is helmed by acclaimed Chef Fae Rungthiwa Chummongkhon, who brings her experience of working at Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe to present an elegant blend of “new Nordic” and Thai flavors in a relaxed setting.
    • The Brasserie, located on the upper lobby, is a lively destination that offers stunning views of the city. Using locally sourced ingredients, the restaurant serves traditional French brasserie fare daily from breakfast through dinner.
    • Peacock Alley, which sits on the same level as The Brasserie, is an ideal lounge for picturesque afternoon teas and light meals. Modeled after the New York original, Peacock Alley presents a menu of delectable homemade pastries and refreshments throughout the day.
    • Bull & Bear on level 55 specializes in grilled meats and seafood, and features a live raw bar along with a custom-made grill designed for smoking, slow roasting, baking and grilling. Eye-catching art deco-inspired interiors, upbeat vibes and dazzling views make Bull & Bear the perfect place to socialize, celebrate and indulge.
    • The Loft on level 56 is a glamorous, New York-inspired bar, steeped in the romance of art nouveau. Taking inspiration from the original 1935 Waldorf Astoria Bar Book, artisanal spirits and forgotten cocktails are crafted to the modern palate using a great collection of house-made ingredients, accompanied by gourmet bar bites.
    • The Champagne Bar, located at the hotel’s peak on level 57, offers an intimate and inspirational environment, designed with meticulous attention to detail. An exquisite list of fine champagnes, hand-crafted cocktails and one of the best views of Bangkok combine to create the ultimate setting for a spectacular evening out. Accessible only to the most discerning of guests, the exclusive bar is primed to be one of the most desirable spots in the city.

Arguably the most striking feature of the property is the 730-square-meter Magnolia Ballroom on level 10, which offers a stunning and sophisticated setting for weddings and social events. A statement sweeping staircase provides an unforgettable photography backdrop and an impactful arrival experience. With an impressive 8-meter-high ceiling, the ballroom accommodates up to 700 guests standing or 330 guests seated, and it is set to be one of Bangkok’s most sought-after event venues.

Regents International School Pattaya students shine thanks to our best ever IGCSE and GCSE result.

    IGCSE results 2018

Congratulations to our students on their outstanding GCSE and IGCSE results this year, our best EVER!

Regents International School Pattaya students' results have exceeded the UK average for GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and IGCSEs (International GCSE) with 85% students achieving A*- C grades.

"I’m so proud of the outstanding achievements of all of our students. This year has been our best ever results and demonstrates our belief that all of our students can achieve more than they think possible. They are now starting the prestigious International Baccalaureate Programme (IBDP) and we are very confident in their future success," Sarah Osborne-James, Principal of Regents International School Pattaya said.

Amos Turner-Wardell, Head of Secondary at Regents International School Pattaya, was overjoyed with the results, stating: “The percentage of students gaining the prestigious Grade 9 is phenomenal. Previously only 2% of UK English Language students were successful in gaining the Grade 9 and at Regents 17% students gained this top exceptional mark. Historically the average percentage of A/A* in the UK is 20%, at Regents we secured 44% of those top end grades. We are so proud of our students and watching their faces today as they embark on the reputable IBDP was an amazing experience! Go Regents!”.

The GCSE and IGCSE are internationally-respected qualifications studied by students aged 14-16 years old. Respected by universities, they cover a broad range of subjects including languages, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, computer science and more.

The IGCSE is one of the most academically challenging qualifications currently on offer to 14-16 year old students worldwide. It provides our students with an excellent foundation to be able to embark on and succeed in the IBDP.

The IBDP is the gold standard in international pre-university qualifications. In total, IB programmes have been offered to more than 1.1 million students in 146 countries. The two-year IBDP is academically challenging and highly-respected by universities around the world. With its strong emphasis on experience-based learning it is also an excellent fit with Regents’ own Global Citizenship philosophy.

The continued success in GCSE and IGCSE results is a testament to Regent International School Pattaya’s high academic standards, excellent teaching and the hard work and dedication of students. Students continue to excel and outperform UK national averages.

    • 44% of all GCSE and IGCSE grades achieved by Regent International School Pattaya students achieved A* or A.
    • 12% gained a prestigious Grade 9 top score in the world.
    • The percentage of our students achieving five A* - C grades, including English and Maths at GCSE and IGCSE, was 85%.

These exceptional results are the culmination of the hard work and dedication of our students, our ambitious approach and the support of our excellent teachers. On behalf of our school community, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our teachers for always inspiring and challenging our students to achieve more than what they may have thought possible.

A continuation of the English National Curriculum, the full two-year program features a combination of coursework and exam work. Students will generally take eight and upon passing are awarded qualifications in a full range of core subjects including languages, sciences, humanities, social sciences, arts and design and mathematics. Top universities around the world look to these qualifications as a benchmark of academic performance when considering applications.

Successful Launch of the new West LMX

West’s official launch of the New LMX Sports Racer prototype at Bira International Circuit was an overwhelming success with over 70 people making the 2 hour trip from Bangkok to the track. A number of race drivers and team managers joined us on the day, with test drives by local professional drivers Jack Lemvard, Kantadhee Kusiri and up and coming Danish driver Victor Conrad.

After some demonstration laps earlier in the day by factory test driver, Lionel Lefebvre, West then conducted a formal presentation unveiling the technology and end engineering development involved in the hi-tech LMX sports racer.

    Lefebvre Lionel comments:
“It is an incredible moment to drive a car that we have built from the ground up and to be able to see that it has extraordinary performance in every point”

Those who drove the car we astounded at the speed and sure-footed handling of the vehicle with all drivers commenting on how late they can brake into a corner and the high corner speed. Comments from Jack Lemvard were: “The car was so much fun and far easier to drive than I thought and had a blast.”. Victor Conrad: “The downforce on the car was incredible and the traction was awesome. The speed was unbelievable, I loved it from the first drive.”

Even West’s new COO, Dean Chapman, did a few laps at the end of the day, commenting “After seeing the car built here locally in Thailand it’s amazing to feel how fantastic it is on track. It’s completely different compared to any other category here in Thailand as it has been engineered to be a race car and not modified from a road car.”

Our strategic partners, Lenso, RunStop, Profender, and Motul set up displays on the day, and during the official section, RunStop and Profender also presented to our visitors.

Overall it was a very successful day that was enjoyed by all.
