    ASCOTT THAILAND RUNS A SONGKRAN CHARITY FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN


    Thailand, 10th April 2017 – CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott) continue its Songkran charity fundraising campaign for the second year. This campaign is one of the organisation’s CSR initiatives to work the upliftment of students at Doi Wiangpha Pittaya School, a remote hill-tribe school located within the Golden Triangle in Chiang Rai province.

    This coming water-play-fun Songkran Festival, a thousand of Ascott’s limited edition reusable waterproof bags will be sold across its properties in Thailand. The donation from this campaign, together with other fundraising campaigns during the year will go towards helping more than 500 underprivileged students from kindergarten up to 9th grade.

    Ascott International Management (Thailand) Limited in partnership with iCare Thailand Foundation (iCare) have been supporting Doi Wiangpha Pittaya School since 2014 in order to create a sustainable development at the school of at least 5 consecutive years.

    Thomas, from Berlin, Germany, has experienced leading positions at top hotels, including the luxury five-star Kempinski Hotel Adlon, Berlin and Kempinski Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich. After a successful spell as Director of Food and Beverage at Plaza Athenee Bangkok, he embarked upon a longer, carefully focused period of time with Shangri-la Hotels and Resorts, including the role of General Manager of China World Summit Wing, the tallest hotel in Beijing, and other prestigious Shangri-la hotels at important Asia Pacific locations.

    Shrewsbury International School hosts its 10th annual Last Night of the Proms event on Thursday 27th October, promising another evening of top quality entertainment and hospitality.

    Celebrating 120 years of British Proms heritage and more than a decade of exceptional music-making at Shrewsbury, the musical programme combines contemporary classics from stage and screen alongside traditional Proms favourites.

    Hosted in our world class auditorium, the concert will feature performances from Shrewsbury’s Senior Choirs and renowned Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Director of Music, Ken Haggarty, and returning guest conductor, John Moore (Shrewsbury School, UK).

    Proposed Amendment to the Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Act of Thailand. The Cabinet accepted a bill proposed by the Ministry of Commerce to amend the Anti-Dumping an Countervailing Act B.E. 2542 of Thailand in its principle.  Circumvention of anti-dumping and countervailing duties has harmed the domestic industries for a long period of time as it is not actionable under the current ADC Act.  The Draft Act will fill the gap in the current ADC Act and make the circumvention activities actionable.   Read More.

    New Law On Recruitment of Foreigners to Work in Thailand. On 15th of August 2016, the Government of Thailand published in the Government Gazette the Royal Decree on Recruitment of Foreigners B.E. 2559 (A.D. 2016).  Its main objectives are to act prevent and suppress human trafficking, forced labor, exploitation of foreign labors and to protect the interests of foreign labors in Thailand up to international standards.  The Royal Decree applies to (1) licensed companies that recruit foreigners to work with an employer in Thailand and (2) employers that recruit foreigners to work with themselves in Thailand  Read More.

    Minimum Wage Rates for Skilled Workers in Thailand.  On the 10th of August 2016, the Notification on Wage Rates for Skilled Workers According to Skills Standards (No. 5) of the National Wage Committee was published in the Government Gazette.  The Notification has increased the new minimum wage rates for skilled workers between THB340 per day and THB550 per day, depending on their levels of skills and experience, for skilled workers in 20 professional branches of 5 industries.   Read More.

    National Legislative Assembly of Thailand Approves Establishment of Ministry of Digital Economy and Society.  The National Legislation Assembly of Thailand approved a bill establishing a new Ministry of Digital Economy and Society on 3rd June 2016.  This new Ministry will replace the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.  It will have a new administrative scope and conceptual framework for implementing, developing and promoting Thailand's digital economy and society.   Read More.
