The unstoppable rise of the Chinese traveller – where are they going and what does it mean for “overtourism”? In the first year of the new millennium, a modest 10.5m overseas trips were made by Chinese residents. Fast forward to 2017 and the figure was 145m – an astounding increase of 1,380 per cent.   It is largely the economies of Asian countries reaping the benefit of the rapid growth in Chinese outbound travel. Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea and Singapore are also among the top 10 destinations for Chinese tourists. Learn how you can gain traction in this surging market to drive your business

Speakers:

  •  Ms. Fauzya Warokka, Country Manager Indonesia/Thailand, Compass Edge, is an Indonesian hotelier who lived in Bali before moved to China and stayed there for over than 10 years in Hangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai. She witnessed the fast growing development in China, and worked in multiple capacities in restaurant, hospitality, event and the travel industry. Fauzya went on to develop a private tour service for high end travellers, and consultant for opening Luxury private villa and restaurants, organising event and travel for government and charity in China gaining her first hands experience about China and Chinese Traveller market’s behaviour before joining Compass Edge.
  •  Ms. Jean Wei, Area Director of Revenue Strategy for all Marriott Hotels in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar (TVCM), is a Chinese national with a distinguished career in driving revenue strategies. Prior to her current role, where she oversees 60+ hotels in the Asia Pacific region of TVCM, she held Revenue Director postings in Sheraton Xiamen, The Westin Guangzhou, and the St.Regis, Sanya, as well as a Cluster Revenue Director role for the Sheraton and Westin Tianjin. Jean is extremely well versed in the topic of “How to Gain Traction in the Chinese Market”.  
  • Khun Bowl Kukijvatana, Associate Regional Director – CTRIP Thailand is one of the original members establishing the Ctrip Thailand business over 4 years ago, and currently the Associate Regional Director Thailand with an extensive Hotel Sales Background. Now responsible for Thailand’s overall accommodation department operation, sourcing, product and marketing. Ctrip, China’s largest online travel services provider, plans to boost the proportion of total revenue it makes from overseas customers from 2 per cent to at least 20 per cent over the next five years, using its recently-acquired Trip.com brand as a bridgehead for international expansion. China is currently the largest inbound market for Thailand in 2017 totalling 9,805,753 arrivals, well on the way to exceed 10 million arrivals in 2018.
